What subjects make good paintings?
I have painted many types of buildings including homes, vacation homes, business locations, churches, barns, wedding venues and historic buildings. Landscaping elements such as gardens and gazebos can be added as well as things that are special to you such as your cute mailbox or your antique car. I can add pets but I cannot paint people.
What are you purchasing?
BUILDING PORTRAIT: An original, matted, watercolor and ink artistic rendering of your select building. In addition, you will receive a digital scan of the painting that you can use to create products such as notecards, mugs or prints of the painting to share with your family. I can walk you through the best way to have these products made or get the products made and delivered to you for an additional fee. A phone or in person consultation, matting, shipping, gift wrap and card, add-ons and all materials used are also included in the price.

What size will the painting be?
For the best results, I need to determine the size and shape of the painting after I see the photos. The minimum size would be 11 X 14 plus the mat. Whenever possible I will stick with a standard size so that you can buy a frame that fits without needing custom framing. However, sometimes the shape of the building doesn't fit a standard size and would look better with a custom frame. I will consult with you once I see the photo.
Can you get the painting faster?
I can sometimes turn the painting around in a week depending on my schedule so please ask. It requires me to work what I consider overtime hours so I charge an extra $200 for this service. You can also pay for expedited shipping.
What are the shipping details?
The painting will be carefully wrapped and mailed with insurance through the USPS. Inside the US, it will come priority mail; outside the US, it will come first class.
What type of photos do you need to provide?
If you are in or near Asheville, NC, I can take the photos I need. If you are not local, I will give you complete instructions on how to take the photos I need. I can paint from an old photo if that is all you have. GPS view is also a possibility.
How do I determine the cost of the painting?
Pricing for projects is $45/per hour. Simple building sketches and other unique projects normally take between 2 and 4 hours. You will receive an estimate and a top price before I begin.
The pricing for a full watercolor portrait of a home or building starts at $450.00. Several factors go into making the decision about the price but it basically depends on the complexity of the drawing and painting. I have invested a lot of time and experience learning my craft and I spend many hours of time on each painting so the price reflects that. All materials, add-ons, matting, gift wrapping and shipping are included in the price.
Do I offer a discount on multiple paintings?
Yes. Once you buy your first original painting, I will take 20% off all other original paintings you buy from me.
What add-ons do I offer?
Any element that is added to the painting that is not in the main photo of the building is an add-on such as pets, extra trees, gardens or garden structures. I can also add your family name, the address, or a quote such as the Jane Austen quote, "Ah! There is nothing like staying at home, for real comfort."

These paintings are intended for personal use only and the image cannot be sold for profit. However, the image can be used in promotional materials. I reserve the right to use the image on my website, for promotional materials, or for sale.
What happens if you are unhappy with the painting?
Because you have looked at samples of my work and we have collaborated throughout the process, hopefully this won't happen. Because I am a small business owner, I cannot give refunds. However, I will paint until you are happy.
